A new under-floor automatic door operator from Gilgen Door Systems is ideal for environments such as hotels were accessibility; aesthetics and pedestrian flow are important requirements. Gilgen recently installed a number of automatic sliding doors incorporating the under-floor operator as part of a new extension to Oxford Brookes University Headington Campus.
The Gilgen SLX sliding doors incorporate a unique under floor door operator which is concealed from view leading to a clean aesthetic design. Working with the main contractors, Gilgen supplied and installed a total of nine bi-parting sliding door systems and five heavy duty swing door operators over the project duration. The new building provides 24,000m2 of new accommodation, including a new library, lecture theatres, student services, teaching accommodation and commercial/retail space designed by Design Engine.
A combination of glazed bi-parting doors and unique Gilgen under-floor operators was chosen to provide improved access to various areas around the building. This solution provides a clean, aesthetic appearance, enabling a seamless transition into the glazed panels above the doors.
The door drive is hidden from view by a removable floor cover which enables unrestricted service access. The operator can be used with a variety of door designs including slim all-glass profiles ensuring a sophisticated, harmonious appearance to match today’s modern design requirements.
