Leading heating appliance and renewables manufacturer Grant UK has welcomed The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) decision to include the Grant Spira range of Condensing Wood Pellet Boilers in the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme (RHI), which is due to launch in Spring 2014.
All products installed by MCS approved companies, meeting the schemes guidelines, will be eligible to submit applications for funding when details of how and when to claim are released.
Prior to announcing this decision, DECC had already allowed these high efficiency renewable biomass boilers onto the Commercial RHI scheme and continued to make Renewable Heat Premium Payments (RHPP) to qualifying domestic installations. However, due in part to the launch of the updated boiler standard EN303 PART 5 – 2012, which specifically excluded condensing appliances, DECC requested DEFRA to carry out a number of additional tests prior to deciding if these appliances should be included as part of the scheme.
From the outset, Grant took a proactive approach to the issues raised requiring clarification, whilst maintaining the position that the products met all conditions in full at the time of testing and were accepted onto the approved MCS product database.
“This is an exciting and ground breaking step forward in legislation and has only been possible with a great deal of due diligence from Grant and swift resolution and communication from the government body, DECC,” said Grant UK’s Technical Services Manager, Neil Sawers. “This is currently the only condensing wood pellet boiler available in the UK and offers significant advantages to homeowners looking for an environmentally friendly heating source.”
