The next step towards creating a new community of homes at the site of a former colliery in Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire, has taken place, following detailed planning approval being issued by Rushcliffe Borough Council.
The development of 450 new homes, which is the first in the county to have achieved top marks in a new national accreditation system, will be known as Hollygate Park and will be built by sister companies Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, bringing jobs and investment to the local area.
The detailed scheme was granted following an in-depth consultation with local residents and community groups and is the culmination of years of master planning between the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency who own the land at Cotgrave, Rushcliffe Borough Council and the local community.
This £100 million development will provide a mix of quality modern homes as well as underpinning at least 200 jobs and training opportunities locally.
Hollygate Park is one of the first developments in the country to achieve top marks in the Built For Life 12 accreditation, which recognises excellence in design quality, safety and community.
Robert Galij, Planning Director for Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, said: “We are very pleased that detailed planning permission had been given for this project. We’ve worked hard with our partners and taken on board the views and ideas of local people and businesses to reach this stage, and this development will offer opportunities for their community, as well as attractive new homes.
“More than 200 local training and employment opportunities will be provided by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes as part of this project, and we also want to boost local businesses by encouraging them to participate in the provision of goods and services.”
This project is being jointly overseen by a partnership of Barratt Developments PLC (parent company of Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes), Rushcliffe Borough Council and the Homes and Communities Agency. Construction work is expected to start shortly, following the signing of a legal agreement between the partners, with the first homes anticipated to be ready by late 2014/early 2015.
Graham Dobbs, Head of Midlands North for the HCA said: “Detailed planning marks a significant step forward for all those involved in the transformation of Cotgrave. We have worked for many years with the Council and local people to ensure our land will bring much-needed jobs and homes for the existing community and we can now look forward to delivering this with our partners at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes.”
Deputy Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Councillor John Cranswick said: “This significant step in the development of Cotgrave is welcomed and is the result of a very positive partnership with Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes and the Homes and Community Agency, and is intended to create growth in both housing and employment.
“It is now our ambition to ensure this first phase of development not only creates additional employment opportunities but also acts as a catalyst to generating the necessary conditions to commence the first phase of the redevelopment of the town centre.
“We look forward to continuing our work with our partners and in particular Cotgrave Town Council and Nottinghamshire County Council who have been instrumental in our success to date. I am looking forward to seeing work start on site and building on the strong partnership foundations that are already in place.”
