Taking care of the laundry needs of guests and staff at the historic Middlethorpe Hall in York is no easy task, but with the help of Electrolux, a solution was found that suited all requirements. The Grade II listed building, which overlooks the famous York racecourse, was originally built in 1699 and began life as a hotel in 1984. In 2008, ownership transferred to the National Trust by donation and today, the venue boasts 29 bedrooms and a state of the art health spa.
After a period of neglect, Middlethorpe Hall was sympathetically restored with decorations, antiques and fine paintings consistent to the style of the 18th century, but behind the scenes, only the most advanced and modern machinery keep the hotel operating to its optimum capabilities, and this includes professional laundry equipment from Electrolux. The company supplied and installed two W4240H Washers, two T4530 Dryers and an IB43316 Ironer to maintain all of the hotel’s laundry needs.
“Laundry is a priority,” comments general manager and director of the hotel, Lionel Chatard. “Not only do we have to ensure clean guest towels, bed and table linen and uniforms on a daily basis, but we also have an extremely busy spa to cater for in terms of linen and towelling.” The spa is one of the major features of the hotel, with indoor swimming pool, steam room and sauna as well as a gym. Hygiene within this area is paramount as well as cleanliness, and having the laundry in-house is an enormous asset.
An in-house laundry service not only saves time but with the Electrolux equipment, it also saves money. The machines are specifically designed to use less water and less energy to operate and for a busy hotel with the machines in use daily, this impacts very favourably from a financial perspective.
“Replacing the existing laundry machinery with the Electrolux equipment has helped enormously with our level of laundry service and with our economy,” continues Mr Chatard. “There is reduced heat from the dryers which saves on energy costs and overall, the performance of all machines is exemplary.”
