The new £8m office and research centre for the British Geological Survey in Nottinghamshire is one of the most sustainable projects to be completed in recent years as befits the UK’s premier centre for earth science information and expertise.
Hunter Douglas provided a Linear Wood Ceiling System for the James Hutton Building, which has achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating. As a manufacturer of wooden building products committed to maximising the 'green' advantages of the basic material, the company’s sustainable, innovative and flexible ceiling was the natural choice for the scheme.
The complex installation proved the importance of the experienced Hunter Douglas team working closely with architects Pick Everard, main contractors Kier and installation contractors Eastledge.
A variety of durable wood is available and for the BGS scheme, 36m2 of 111mm module in Maple and 550m2 of 111mm module in Ash was selected.
