Innovative interior design company helps launch luxury hotel

Founded in 2008 by experienced designers Christina van Baal and Carolin Scheffold, cutting edge interior design company C&C Interiors continues to go from strength-to-strength with the launch of luxury Verbier hotel Cordée des Alpes in December 2012.

This follows their first forays into the Alpine market with private members club Club Chalet Blanc and participation in the recent Hotel Nevaï refit.

The team are currently working on a Berlin based design project for Mercedes Benz Germany.

The hotel brief was to work with local and international architects to transform an existing concrete staff accommodation apartment block into an new luxury hotel for the Swiss Valais that reflected the experience of an alpine resort at the turn of the last century.

Key Design Focuses:

  • Traditional mountain design and craftsmanship centred on the genius loci of the Swiss Valais.
  • To contrast and complement this, key items were additionally sourced from all over the world - examples include Nepalese carpets, Chinese cupboards, English chairs, Portuguese wall tiles and Belgian seating furniture
  • “Wabi-Sabi” - a comprehensive Japanese aesthetic centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection found in natural objects i.e. the utilisation of tactile surfaces that will age and evolve with use, becoming more beautiful with time.
  • Natural luxury and use of traditional local materials.

The hotel is converted from three identical blocks with one large extended restaurant to a courtyard building with a detailed structured facade and an extension with the pool area.

The central bar features handcrafted tin top both divides and ties the place together. The spa takes inspiration from a Moroccan bath house experience with the use of Italian surfaces and fabrics embedded in the Alpine structure of the wooden roof and visible outside shutters. Old wooden beams, Italian ‘stucco calce’ surfaces and an open fireplace provide a perfect hideaway from the cold.
