INTERSERVE STARTS WORK ON £27 MILLION ‘HOLT PARK ACTIVE’ FITNESS & WELLBEING CENTRE IN LEEDS

Interserve, the international support services and construction group, has started work on a contract worth £27 million to build an innovative fitness and wellbeing centre in Leeds, which will be called ‘Holt Park Active’. The centre is being funded through the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and built through the Leeds Education Partnership for Leeds City Council.

Due to open in December 2013, the development will replace Holt Park Leisure Centre and include a twenty five metre swimming pool, café, older people’s hub, learning disability services, gym, hydrotherapy pool and activity rooms.

Interserve operations director Gareth Edwards said:

“Interserve is responsible for delivering 23 schemes under the Leeds Building Schools for the Future Programme, representing some £350 million of investment for the people of Leeds. This project will bring tremendous benefits to the local community and, with work getting underway, we are really looking forward to making it a reality.”

Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, executive board member with responsibility for adult health and social care said:

“We are absolutely thrilled that building work has finally started… Holt Park Active will be an amazing facility that will enable people to easily access social care and community facilities within their local area.  It will also help people with greater needs such as a physical or learning disability, or a mental health problem to access the personalised services they need confidently and easily.”

Councillor Adam Ogilvie, executive board member with responsibility for sport and leisure said:

“Holt Park Active is a name that really sums up the whole ethos of this project.  It will be a real ‘one-stop shop’ for people of all ages to access a wide variety of council services plus state-of-the-art leisure facilities, and is sure to be another great facility for the city to be proud of.”
