John Porter Doors Limited, a privately owned specialist manufacturer of quality timber commercial doors, doorsets and associated joinery products, has been acquired by The Performance Timber Products Group Limited (PTP). John Porter Doors Limited will continue to trade as John Porter Doors Limited (JPDL) from its Sunderland facility.
The Performance Timber Products Group adds this quality brand to an impressive and growing list of well-recognised, marketing leading companies that include: Mumford & Wood Limited, the specialist period timber windows and sliding sash manufacturer; Clearwood UK, the south west’s premium brand, now absorbed into the Mumford & Wood business; TimberWindows.com, the UK’s fastest growing consumer brand of timber fenestration; and more recently Dale Windows, formerly Dale Joinery, which provides the Group’s first entry point into the merchant sector.
Roy Wakeman, Group Executive Chairman, and Mark de Rozarieux, Group Financial Director, will join the JPDL board working alongside Brian Pears, Managing Director, and Ian McSally, Commercial Director.
PTP is backed by Graphite Capital who took a majority shareholding when the Group made its third acquisition in Timberwindows.com, the fast growing consumer timber window brand. PTP operates from its Essex-based head office.
Roy Wakeman, who previously was CEO of the largest bespoke door manufacturer in the UK, Leaderflush Shapland Group, which was sold in 2005, says: “We are pleased to have this opportunity to work with the management of John Porter Performance Doorsets Limited and to equip the business with additional working capital to consolidate its operations. The company has built a strong reputation in the commercial doors sector and its brand fits well with our existing portfolio of timber building products.”
Mr Wakeman continues: “Our business plan is designed to improve customer service by increasing production efficiencies and reducing lead times. We will produce factory-assembled, high performance doorsets on time, on budget and on spec.”
The company has gained a significant share of the bespoke timber doorset market and the management team is confident that, under new ownership, additional expertise will be brought to all levels of the operation.
Roy Wakeman reports that he is particularly pleased to be associated with this market sector again. “I’m pleased to be back and look forward to working with the construction and subcontractor customer bases. The challenges facing us as a result of falling public expenditure will make for exciting times.”
JPDL was founded in 1932 and produces fire-rated doorsets for public buildings in the education, retail, commercial, defence, security and government sectors and is one of only six national manufacturers approved by the DHSS for the supply of robust internal doorsets in hospitals including acoustic, x-ray, ultra-clean and wet room areas.
