Knauf Insulation, in partnership with CRASH - the construction and property industry’s charity for homeless people - has donated its Rocksilk Universal Slab insulation to a project undertaken by performing arts charity, Cardboard Citizens.
Established in 1991, Cardboard Citizens uses theatre combined with support as a catalyst for personal and social change in homeless people’s lives, through theatrical performances, performing art workshops and personalised advice and guidance. Knauf Insulation has donated its Universal Slab to provide new fit for purpose premises for the charity, including rehearsal space and offices.
“Homeless people living in hostels are usually socially isolated and lack the social capital needed to get ahead. The work Cardboard Citizens carries out with homeless people really resonates with what we do here at CRASH. Therefore, when they approached us for help to improve their new premises in East London, we knew we could definitely help them out thanks to our network of contractors and manufacturers, such as Knauf Insulation,” comments Emma Brophy at CRASH.
Knauf Insulation donated eight pallets of 100mm Rocksilk Universal Slab to improve the thermal and acoustic performance of the premises – ideal for this project where noise levels need to be kept to a minimum outside of the rehearsal spaces, to prevent unnecessary disturbances to people in guidance and advice meetings.
Knauf Insulation’s Rocksilk Universal Slab is a resilient, non-combustible rock mineral wool product that has a thermal conductivity of 0.035W/mK and is classified as Euroclass A1 to BS EN 13501-1. Available in densities of 33 to 140kg/m3, Knauf Insulation’s Rocksilk Universal Slabs can deliver excellent acoustic performance suitable for an array of applications.
Lisa Caughey from Cardboard Citizens concluded: “Our new premises means that for the first time we will have a purpose-built workshop and rehearsal space, as well as offices and private rooms where we can provide advice and guidance to our members. Without the help from CRASH and the support from organisations such as Knauf Insulation, we would not have been able to make this dream come true.”
