The LRWA (Liquid Roofing and Waterproofing Association) is proud to announce the launch of its new Training Centre at Briggs Amasco’s premises in Cradley Heath.
Ray Horwood from the NFRC officially opened the centre during a special ceremony aimed at getting the industry working together for our future liquid roofers.
“The launch of the LRWA’s Specialist Apprenticeship Programme and Training Centre has come about through the power of the partnerships forged between us and our manufacturing members, and through our close relationship with Construction Skills,” comments Terry Wain of the LRWA.
“We are grateful for the help they have provided in developing the programme and gaining funding to build a new training centre. We would also like to thank Briggs Amasco, who we chose to work with because of their reputation within the industry and the fact that their premises in Cradley Heath offer excellent facilities in a perfectly situated central location.”
Apprentices who take part in the Specialist Apprenticeship Programme will benefit from practical training provided by industry experts. In fact 75% of the whole course is practical learning, providing them with hands-on skills that will stand them in good stead for their future liquid roofing careers.
A number of leading manufacturers are involved with the programme including Kemper System, Sika Liquid Plastics, Polyroof Products, Triflex, Stirling Lloyd and Kingspan Insulation. Each produces very specialist products that have their own unique methods of installation, and by providing training for new apprentices they are sharing not only practical application education but also fully rounded skills for new liquid roofers.
Four candidates are already taking part in year one of the course and are being assessed by Construction Skills, who commented; “I visited the apprentices and once again they are learning so much on the programme. They are very happy with all the training, particularly the knowledge they are gaining. It has made such a difference to their method of working on site and it is great to hear that a programme is having such an impact.”
