A range of timber windows and doors from Black Millwork have been specified for a barn conversion in rural Derbyshire – achieving the perfect balance of classic wood aesthetics and low maintenance requirements.
Owners Carole and Clive McPherson converted the main part of their picturesque red brick barn into a family home 20 years ago and have now embarked on a second phase of work, in which the garage has also been renovated to provide additional living space.
Using this as an opportunity to refurbish the property’s fenestration, Carole and Clive chose products from Black Millwork after meeting the manufacturer at a trade fair.
“We were really impressed with the quality and finish of the Black Millwork products and so it was a straightforward decision to specify them for our project,” Carole commented. “One of the main advantages was that we could have the oak finish on the interior of the building and the treated finish on the outside of the frames, where they are open to the elements. This means that we can enjoy the warm wood look indoors without having to worry about the constant repainting that is normally required by timber framed windows.”
Carol and Clive specified 13 Andersen A Series Casement windows, all in the oak interior and Sandtone external finish. Andersen windows from Black Millwork feature a unique Perma-Shield® system that forms a tough protective shell to safeguard the inner wood. This exclusive cladding repels water, and resists dents and corrosion, keeping the window in top condition and reducing future maintenance.
To complete the specification, the couple also chose a Black Millwork oak entrance door. Incorporating high performance insulated panels to ensure excellent levels of thermal efficiency, Black Millwork’s range of high quality timber entrance doors offer the best in terms of strength and durability. The range boasts thicknesses of up to 68mm to fully comply with European Standards and is available in a variety of doorset designs to suit any property or dwelling, from traditional and period styles to more contemporary, urban options depending on the desired look and character.
All Black Millwork branded windows and doors are manufactured from high quality, knot-free engineered oak and engineered Baltic pine, which have been produced to ensure defect-free timber and eliminate the problems previously associated with the performance of wood in varying temperatures and humidities.
“We’re really happy with the windows and doors from Black Millwork, they’ve certainly helped brighten up our property and it’s reassuring to know that we won’t have to spend lots of time maintaining them in the future,” Carole concluded.
