The recent flood alerts and disastrous flash flooding across the UK, highlights the devastation caused from increased surface water run off and rising river and coastal water levels.
Marley’s recently launched anti-flood valves serve as the ideal solution to prevent the backflow from surcharging sewers - providing fast and effective operation. In addition, the anti-flood valves help to minimise the financial losses caused by sewage flooding events and are fully compliant with Building Regulations.
There are approximately two million properties at risk from flooding in the UK with many directly affected by river or coastal flooding however, more homes are damaged indirectly by the backflow of sewage. Marley’s anti-flood (or non-return) valves have been designed to prevent backflow from surcharging sewers, so wherever there is danger from rising water backing up into a property through the drainage system, the valve will close off the backflow automatically to prevent flood damage.
Importantly, the double-flap valve is fully compliant with Building Regulations and Document H1, which states: “2.11 Anti-flooding valves should preferably be of the double valve type, and should be suitable for foul water and have a manual closure device. They should comply with the requirements of BS EN 13564. A single valve should not normally serve more than one building.”
Produced in both PVCu and ABS Plastic, the anti-flood valves are both corrosion resistant and impervious to rodent penetration, offering specifiers and consultants product longevity and durability. Furthermore, the design of the anti-flood valves is as such to enable simple installation and provide superior performance benefits in vulnerable areas such as low-lying coastal, lake or valley areas, private drainage systems connected to public sewers supplied with pumping stations or where non-pressure flow control is needed.
Ian Crampton, Product Manager at Marley Plumbing and Drainage states: “Weather patterns over the last few years have changed dramatically bringing more intense periods of rain, that existing drainage systems are simply unable to cope with. The destruction caused by resulting flash floods can be devastating and costly, not to mention dangerous when dealing with sewage water. The function of the new double-flap valve therefore, is crucial to stopping the backflow of surcharging sewers. The effective design means the valve will close off the backflow automatically to prevent flood damage.
“We are committed to providing customers with high quality products that meet their needs, as well as an experienced technical design back up and support service, ensuring the right product is always specified for the application.”
