Supplying consignments totalling more than 17 kilometres of cable tray, ladder and trunking, together with thousands of ancillary parts and accessories, to one of London’s most prestigious retail and office developments had to be all in a day’s work for Metsec Cable Management.
One New Change is located at Cheapside, adjacent to St Paul’s Cathedral in the heart of the City of London. An area steeped in commercial history, the City is at the centre of the national and international banking finance markets. With a few exceptions, the area has lacked the presence of the major high street retailers, something which One New Change has rectified in providing one of the largest consolidated retail spaces in central London.
Appointed to undertake the design and implementation of the development’s roof-sited, high and low voltage generator package, together with accompanying electrical infrastructure, building control systems and internal and external lighting systems, specialist electrical contractors, T.Clarke needed suppliers who could guarantee stock availability and efficient delivery to site on a daily basis. In keeping with emissions targets, the company also needed to source from a single supplier to minimise the number of deliveries to site.
T.Clarke selected Metsec Cable Management as the preferred supplier of cable management systems to the project through distributor, WF Electrical.
Nigel Moynihan, Contract Manager at T.Clarke explains, “Selecting the right suppliers is important on any project, but One New Change presented special considerations due to its location and the scale of the project. We needed to be confident that whoever was chosen would be able to react quickly to our on-site needs, assuring accuracy of inventory and reliability in deliveries. Metsec’s resources and skills provided this assurance and they succeeded in delivering their promises throughout the contract period.”
In total, Metsec delivered around £200,000 worth of products to site on a daily call-off over the course of the M&E stages of the project.
Metsec’s commercial manager, Manjit Singh, comments, “Naturally, with such a large project there was a good deal of negotiation and planning taking place before we actually started, but our technical and sales teams were able to get everything in place without any problems. Our stock levels and manufacturing capabilities enabled us to guarantee product availability and, as we deliver to Central London on a daily basis, scheduling of deliveries to One New Change was relatively straightforward; all in a day’s work, really!”
Open seven days a week, One New Change is Land Securities’ latest completed development located on Cheapside in the heart of the City of London. Designed by Jean Nouvel, one of the world's most celebrated modernist architects, the mixed-use development offers approximately 330,000 sq ft of prestigious office space and 220,000 sq ft of retail space comprising shops, cafés and restaurants, establishing Cheapside as one of London's great commercial thoroughfares.
