Construction has started on a new Classroom block and car park at the Lord Wandsworth College in Hook, Hampshire. The £1.6m contract for the two storey brick building that will be home to an additional 11 high tech classrooms, function room, careers library and special needs facility has been gained by Fareham based Amiri Construction. The projected will be completed by August 2011. The building will feature a number of energy saving features including solar panels to provide power, wind catcher fresh air ventilation units and sun-pipes through the building to increase natural light.
Andre Usborne, Bursar at Lords Wandsworth College said that the new classroom block, porters lodge and associated parking will benefit both students and teaching personnel.
The new classroom facility will be a superb enhancement to the teaching provision at Lord Wandsworth College. The re-routed road to the main car park was completed before the academic year started in September, said Andre Usborne. We are confident that we will see a first class building ready for occupation at the start of the next academic year.
Members of the Amiri team are no strangers to the campus. In 2003 they completed the construction of a 625,000 new music and drama block. Amiri's Managing Director Grahame Pettit said that they are also delighted to work with Bournemouth based Rollo Malcom-Green, from Mancon Project Management, that specialises within the education sector and was responsible for the construction company's first project the £1.0m new Learning Resource Centre and classrooms at Chafyn Grove School in Salisbury when they launched in 2005.
