Packaging firm turns to Ambirad to keep factory cool

Following the move to its state-of-the-art facility near Fareham, healthcare packaging company Contego Packaging was looking for an energy-efficient and more cost-effective way to cool internal air in its new factory.

The solution was found in ColdAir from Ambirad, an evaporative cooling system which cools the air using a natural principle and consumes 80% less energy than conventional air conditioning.

Proven in industrial and commercial premises across the UK, AmbiRad’s ColdAir evaporative cooling system offered the client the most efficient way of cooling the production area of the 3072m2 factory and reducing the heat output from the manufacturing process.

These evaporative cooling systems provide a versatile, practical and low cost alternative to traditional air conditioning systems which are notoriously expensive to run and tricky to install.  Evaporative coolers are also cost-effective and can reduce the internal air temperature by just a few degrees when required.

For the Contego Packaging factory, Ambirad worked with specialist contractor MJG Mechanical Services Ltd on the installation of 15 ColdAIR RA150 units which were arranged in four zones, each controlled by network routers.  The roof mounted ColdAIR units are fitted with ducts dropping to four way diffusion terminals with adjustable horizontal flaps suspended at 4.5m above the floor level. Roof extract fans were coordinated to operate at the same time as the ColdAIR units and ensure the volume of inputted air is extracted to atmosphere.

Designed with energy efficiency in mind, the ColdAIR evaporative cooling system from AmbiRad uses only 20% of the energy used by traditional air conditioning.  ColdAIR makes use of the free latent energy in the atmosphere.  Cooling the internal environment by drawing air through continually wetted pads that surround the ColdAir unit, the system integrates this ‘natural air conditioning’ technique in an innovative way.

The ColdAIR does not rely on refrigerant gases (CFCs) in its operation, and as the evaporation of moisture into the air reduces the temperature – it filters the air through a damp pad to remove airborne contaminants.

With the ColdAIR evaporative cooling system from AmbiRad, Contego Packaging can benefit from a cooling system that is environmentally friendly and great value for money.
