PERSIMMON HOMES’ DONATION TO NEWPORT SCHOOL IS A ‘KIT OF ALRIGHT’

Persimmon Homes is making first impressions last with pupils as well as house hunters, after donating £2,000 worth of flashy new sports kit to the city’s newest school.

In a bid to set some solid foundations between Llanwern High School and the housing developers, Persimmon is building a new relationship with children and teachers with new football, rugby and netball strips for teams to make the most of.

The generous gift was organised to coincide with Persimmon’s work to build 307 new homes as part of the £1 billion Glan Llyn St. Modwen development in the city.

The £29 million school has the capacity to house up to 1,450 11-18 year olds and is expected to be closely linked to the site, once completed.

The school is currently the newest in Wales and has so far proved a popular choice with local residents.

Rebecca Paul, sales manager for Persimmon East Wales said: “We are delighted that the donation was so well received and that we were able to contribute in some way.

“Our Greenacres development in Newport is one of the most exciting projects we are involved with and, with Llanwern High School playing such a pivotal role in the overall scheme, we wanted to give the children something to remember us by.

“We look forward to continuing our work with Llanwern High School and supporting future projects.”

Andy Knight, business development manager for Llanwern High School, said: “Without the donation from Persimmon, the school would not have been able to supply the new kits.

“The teams now look very professional and are all glad to no longer wear their PE kits during matches. The school takes great pride in its sports teams and we definitely seen a huge change in their attitude towards sport since purchasing the kits and we’ve gone from seeing nine or 10 students at trials to around 30.

“We’ve been amazed at the effect the new kits have had and it’s all thanks to Persimmon. We have been working very closely with them and are delighted to have formed such a successful partnership. We look forward to continuing our work with Persimmon and cannot thank them enough for their kind donation.”
