Leading electrical installation supplier Rexel has won a prestigious new contract with Babcock International Ltd, the UK’s leading engineering support service organisation for sectors including defence, energy, transport and education.
The contract will see Rexel companies Newey & Eyre and WF Electrical supply a range of electrical products to the four divisions of the Babcock Group. Throughout the project Rexel will be supporting Babcock Group’s key objective to reduce its emissions by as much as 75 per cent. One of the ways they hope to achieve this is by storing a large amount of product on site as consignment stock, therefore reducing the number of deliveries that are needed, thus lowering carbon emissions. In addition, by bulk buying stock the company expects to reduce packaging by as much as 5 per cent per year.
The four divisions which will supported in the contract include Babcock infrastructure; the company’s dedicated division which offers support to both HMS Excellence and HMS Raleigh and also manages a number of army barracks which house a large number of army personnel. Both Rexel companies will also be providing this important department with consignment stock which will be stored on site, ensuring that products are always readily available.
Further to this, the company will be supplying stock to both Babcock rail and the critical assets division, which is responsible for maintaining a dedicated area at Gatwick airport used exclusively by the armed forces. The final division is Babcock nuclear; the UK's largest specialist nuclear support services organisation.
Keith Johnstone, national account manager for Rexel, comments: “We’re obviously delighted to have been awarded this contract with such a pioneering organisation who is involved in some of the most important projects in the UK.
“We will be working in partnership with the Babcock Group to help them to meet energy reduction targets by specifying more energy efficient products and also advising what other measures we can recommend such as purchasing rationalisation, in order to make further savings.”
Danny Harris, supply chain and procurement manager for Babcock International Ltd, comments: “We chose to work with the Rexel group as they are experts in their field with unrivalled access to world-leading electrical products and exceptional service capabilities. We therefore felt it was best placed to provide us with a complete range of products that we require, given the diverse nature of our business.
“The consignment stock element is crucial to our business – helping us to not only reduce our carbon emissions, but also in terms of security. By lowering the number of deliveries it helps to reduces security implications and therefore the paperwork that surrounds them, helping us to work smarter.”
