One hundred entries from 21 countries all over the world were received for the RIBA Vauxhall Design Competition.
Architects and Landscape Designers were asked to put their ‘High Line – High Level Thinking Caps on!’ to design the Public Realm and they did not disappoint.
The rich and colourful designs include Outdoor Lidos in the Thames, Planted Cycleways and Elevated Gardens in the Sky.
Chris Law, Public Ream and Development Director for the Vauxhall BID said: "The number and quality of the entries are remarkable. There is a lively variation of ideas and many reoccurring themes. Our aim is to help create a great public realm for Vauxhall.
Ideas for sustainable transport, walking and cycling, are highly prized, making connections to the river and London’s South Bank a high priority.
Green Infrastructure ideas with new street trees, planting and pocket parks are also highly sought after.
Chris Law continued: "The ideas range from the bold imaginative concept, through quirky and fun to the highly practical and innovative. Some are even plainly bonkers. But this just adds to the amazing creative input."
Vauxhall One, RIBA and The Landscape Institute will exhibit the entries at the Garden Museum, Lambeth Palace Road, London, SE1 7LB and on an Outdoor Trail through the Rail Arches and Parks of Vauxhall until April 19, 2013, 10am – 5pm.
