SOUTHAMPTON COMMUNITY PROJECTS BENEFIT FROM PPG AND CARILLION ALLIANCE

The unique partnership between paint manufacturer PPG Architectural Coatings - producer of premium paint brand Johnstone’s – and support services and construction company Carillion has helped a string of voluntary community projects in Southampton give their premises a new lease of life.

Carillion’s Third Sector Redundant Paint offer, supported by substantial donations from PPG’s brands Johnstone’s and Leyland, had previously helped community organisations in Tameside, near Manchester, bring a splash of colour back to their surroundings and now it is the turn of projects from across Southampton to make the most of a donation of over 250 litres of paint.

Beneficiaries of the paint, which included Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt and Covaplus Vinyl Matt, include the Wheatsheaf Trust, a charity working to promote social inclusion, the Youth Project run by Southampton City Council and Brook Pre-School.

Tim Brightwell, Specification Development Manager for PPG, adds: “We are delighted that this exciting partnership between PPG and Carillion is continuing to enhance the surroundings of a wide array of community initiatives across the country. The partnership hit the ground running with a donation to projects in Tameside recently and we are thrilled that projects from across Southampton will now be able to give their premises a new lease of life. Corporate Social Responsibility is hugely important to PPG and we look forward to enhancing communities across the country over the coming months with the help of Carillion.”

Phil Calland, Carillion’s Work-Winning Supply Chain Manager, said: “This initiative has proved to be such a massive success that we developed a partnership model that we are replicating for the benefit of the communities in other areas in which we work.”

Southampton Voluntary Services is the umbrella group for the local voluntary sector and assisted in co-ordinating and driving the scheme locally. Chief Executive Jo Ash comments: “This is a fantastic opportunity for voluntary and community groups to brighten up their premises with free paint made available through partnership work. It brings wins all round as people are cheered up by the nicer premises and voluntary groups are able to save money which is ever more difficult to raise these days. This is just one example of how positive working together through the supply chain can help tackle shared problems and bring big social benefits.”
