The Wood Norton reopens after £325,000 revamp

Worcestershire’s The Wood Norton, has unveiled its brand new alfresco dining and garden area.

The hotel gardens have been transformed over the last few months, providing fantastic views of the Malverns, whilst creating a beautiful location for guests to enjoy afternoon tea, drinks, and food.

The ‘alfresco and garden’ project has cost £325k (£300k on the garden planting and landscaping and just under £25k for the garden furniture). Craig Webb, general manager at The Wood Norton, explains further: “We’ve spent a lot of time and money on the gardens, and we’re really pleased with the results. The wicker style dining furniture, placed upon the stone terrace, which overlooks the landscaped gardens, sets the scene for the perfect alfresco dining experience.”

In celebration of the new alfresco dining area and gardens, the hotel have launched a special promotional deal, in which guests can enjoy a champagne afternoon tea for two for just £25 rather than the usual regular £46.

Craig adds: “We’re keen to get the word out there about our afternoon teas, and alfresco dining area. The hotel is steeped in history, and it’s only fair that we share this magical place with as many people as we can.”

Indeed, in the early 1900’s, when owned by European Royalty, The Wood Norton was the venue for the marriage of Princess Louise of Orleans – the Grandmother of the present King of Spain. The BBC then bought the site in 1939 to establish an emergency centre away from London.  Furthermore it was also used for some of the filming of the Doctor Who serial Spearhead from Space and it was later used for all of the location filming for another Doctor Who series Robot, where Tom Baker made his first appearance as the much loved time lord.

Craig adds: “it’s amazing to think that our gardens have been used for such an array of important events, from Royal weddings to Dr Who filming! We’ve found masses of old pictures back when it was a hunting lodge for European Royalty. It’s fantastic for guests to be able to see these pictures, and think that they’re dining out in the gardens that lent themselves to such important historical events.”

Craig concludes: “We’re really proud with how the alfresco dining area and gardens have come together, it has a quintessentially British feel to it and we’re looking forward to playing host over the summer.”
