Topping out fifty new homes

Limestone View, a 50 apartment extra care scheme for older people, was ‘topped out’ last week by the project partners.

Representatives of Housing 21, Yorkshire County Council, Craven District Council, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Keepmoat joined to celebrate the key milestone in the development

County Councillor Clare Wood, North Yorkshire’s Executive Member for Health and Adult Services, added: “We are very proud of this beautiful scheme which enables our older residents to live in the heart of their community while having access to the care and support they need. Extra Care is regarded by the County Council as the way ahead; the best model for providing older people with a home of their own in locations with which they are familiar but with the benefit of 24-hour-a-day support where needed.

"Extra Care also represents the best in partnership working with the County and Borough councils working together with housing associations and building contractors to create state-of-the-art facilities with community resources. “

Abdul A. Ravat, Area Manager at the HCA said: “This scheme provides high quality homes for older local people in an area where the cost of houses is often too high for many residents. The excellent community facilities will ensure that the 50 apartments remain are at the heart of the community. Our investment of £900,000 has helped make a real difference for the local community and it is fantastic to see the last of the building work completed."

Siobhan Moore, Head of Development - Commissioning for Housing 21 said: "We’re very excited to reach the ‘topping out’ phase for this delightful development, which has been specifically designed to meet the needs of older residents. Care and support services will be available to residents on an individual basis, enabling them to live as independent a life as possible with choice and dignity.”

Limestone View, which is being provided as part of Housing 21’s Approved Development Programme with the HCA, will provide 50 one and two bedroom apartments with options for rent or purchase. The £6.7 million scheme will also be home to the new Settle library and Registrars’ office as well as housing a variety of other community facilities, including a restaurant/cafe, lounge, wellbeing suite with memory clinic, hair and beauty salon and a care shop.

Lead member of Craven District Council, Richard Foster, says: “I am pleased to see this housing scheme providing homes for our growing elderly population. The availability of adequate housing in our communities is of vital importance. This development will help Settle to remain a vibrant town and sustain economic development.”

The scheme, which replaces a former residential care home, has received grant funding from North Yorkshire County Council and the HCA. It is due for completion at the end of August, 2014.

Richard Foster, Lead member of Craven District Council added: “I am pleased to see this housing scheme providing homes for our growing elderly population. The availability of adequate housing in our communities is of vital importance. This development will help Settle to remain a vibrant town and sustain economic development,”

Martin Smithurst, Regional Managing Director at regeneration specialist Keepmoat, which is building the scheme, said: “It’s great that we have reached this milestone in the development of this exciting scheme. Limestone View will bring many benefits, not just to the residents but also to the wider community in Settle, so we are delighted to be working with our partners on this development.”
