Travis Perkins Group, the UK's largest supplier of building materials, is supporting the introduction of a voluntary water efficiency label by working with the WRAP industry working party and pledging to include the mark on product packaging, branch displays and marketing materials.
The labelling scheme has been launched to help consumers identify the water efficiency of bathroom fittings such as taps, showers, WCs, and baths. Based on the existing water label, but applicable to a much broader range of products, the mark is expected to come into force in summer 2014.
Eimear Montague, Services Development Manager at Sustainable Building Solutions, said: "I was really pleased to represent SBS and the wider Travis Perkins Group within the WRAP industry working party and to add my thoughts on how to progress this scheme. We encourage the rest of the industry to follow our lead and champion the water efficiency label. This is the best way to get consumers thinking about water usage and to make it simple for them to make like-for-like product comparisons.”
Harshad Gorasia, Travis Perkins Group Bathrooms Director, added: "Feedback tells us that customers want to save water in order to reduce energy bills, so we were really keen to help drive this scheme. The current annual rise of 1% in water usage in the UK is unsustainable.
"We hope that by maximising the use of this label, whilst consciously developing high-performance water saving sanitaryware through our Group Own Brands, we can do our bit to support consumers and the wider-industry.”
