Building a modern house with a traditional exterior is no easy feat, but that didn’t stop housing developer Kirkby Homes from taking on the task in the historic town of Haslemere.
The project involved the development of six luxury homes using Redland’s Rosemary Clay Craftsman roof tiles. Kirkby Homes specified the Craftsman tile because of its ability to blend in with the traditional houses in the surrounding area whilst still being hardwearing and long lasting.
The land that the houses are built on used to hold a printer factory and several other disused building that had fallen into disrepair, the area was in desperate need of redevelopment.
Fran Lasenby of Kirkby homes said: “Retaining the town’s identity was a major concern amongst the locals when it came to planning permission. The Rosemary Clay Craftsman was selected because it looks like a handmade tile and has the rustic quality the town’s residents wanted to reflect. The end result was exactly what we wanted and all six of the houses were sold very quickly.”
The Craftsman tile is the latest addition to the Rosemary clay range which has been used on roofs across the country for over 175 years, making it the “go to tile” if you want to maintain the heritage look often found in small towns. Due to the unique manufacturing process, the tile possesses a traditional look with all the benefits of a new tile.
Patrick Norris from Myona Roofing, the contractor responsible for roofing all six of the properties stated: “We have used Redland tiles on many projects over the years, the wide range of styles means that there is one to suit every job. They are easy to use and a pleasure to work with.”
