AKW joins RIBA accredited CPD network

Inclusive living product specialist AKW has become part of the RIBA CPD Providers Network after receiving the body’s accreditation for its first presentation on ‘Showering for Independent Living’.

As a market leader AKW works in partnership with local authorities, housing groups, consortia and architects to provide bathroom and kitchen solutions for independent living.  Its products are designed in collaboration with occupational therapists and healthcare specialists to ensure that they fully meet the needs of both users and carers.

Showering is an area that the company puts particular emphasis on when recommending approaches to adapted bathroom design.  Malcolm Crawford, Specification Manager of AKW says:  “For anyone with mobility issues, a shower has many advantages over a standard bath, but proper thought has to be given to the way in which the shower area is designed.  We have developed a range of products for the creation of wet rooms or level access shower enclosures and our design specialists can provide a wealth of information on their installation.  Because we work so closely with architects on a wide range of schemes, we felt that it would be of benefit to develop an authoritative presentation which would provide all the considerations that need to be taken into account when looking at showering for independent living.  The RIBA accreditation is an excellent endorsement to the value of this presentation.”

The AKW presentation focuses on learning about how level access can be created in the bathroom to enable people with mobility needs to access the showering area safely and freely. The presentation gives details about the benefits of creating level access with a wet room former as well as shower trays and what key considerations need to be taken into account when specifying these solutions.

In addition to becoming part of RIBA’s CPD Providers Network, AKW now also has information and a range of literature available on RIBA’s Product Selector.
