Johnstone's Trade to endure at £27m academy

The unrivalled durability of Johnstone’s Trade’s Endura Super Durable Matt has been put through its paces at the £27 million Trinity Academy in Halifax.  

Trinity Academy, which caters for pupils aged 11 to 18, was designed by Ryder Architecture and overseen by main contractor Carillion, who combined to create a truly flexible learning environment.  

With thousands of pupils attending the school, the need for a paint that would withstand the rigours of heavy traffic was paramount so Johnstone’s Endura Super Durable Matt was duly specified for its outstanding durability and aesthetic properties.  

The product’s special formula means that it is 50 times tougher than standard vinyl matt emulsion and has been scrub tested to achieve official ISO and BS standards, ensuring that it will provide a lasting finish for the Academy. The fashionable matt finish is available in more than 7,000 colours, which decorators S P Smiths took full advantage of to paint feature walls in bright blues, bold greens and striking reds, which perfectly complemented the more neutral shades.   

Johnstone’s Water-Based Aqua Gloss system was used for the interior woodwork throughout the Academy after becoming the natural successor to solvent-based trim paints, which have been impacted by legislation in recent years. The Aqua Gloss system offers quick drying and low odour benefits matched with the high sheen, great coverage and excellent durability of solvent-based paints and will protect the woodwork for years to come.
