Mansell, a Balfour Beatty brand, has commenced the construction of a new build extra-care complex in Derby called Beaumont Walk.
The facility will accommodate 70 two-bed apartments and community hub with amenities including a hair and beauty salon, restaurant, shop and launderette.
The £7.4 million scheme, which is being constructed on behalf of Housing 21 and Derby City Council, will also offer occupants the option of 24-hour on site care.
Beaumont Walk is designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating and will minimise energy loss through an efficient thermal fabric within the wall cavities. Environmentally friendly boilers and communal heating systems will help reduce energy use. The building design maximises the use of natural lighting and ventilation, incorporating low-water use sanitary ware with a sustainable urban drainage system.
Aesthetic design features include the use of contrasting brick types on the façade and a pitched roof. Extensive landscaping and the construction of a garden courtyard will create a tranquil outdoor recreational space. Feature walls will be used to add interest and depth internally.
