The NBS has curated a comprehensive and exciting three-day BIM programme for this year’s Ecobuild (03-05 March 2015) offering manufacturers access to expert advice from the team behind the NBS National BIM Library (NBL), the UK’s fastest growing BIM library and the primary source of free-to- use, platform neutral BIM Objects in the UK.
The programme includes workshops, case studies and talks, with representatives of NBS and RIBA Enterprises, industry experts and leading authors. Topics will include ‘BIM and the manufacturer – what does this mean for me?’ and ‘How to use the BIM Object standard to make your own BIM objects.’
Ian Chapman, Director of the NBS National BIM Library will also lead a masterclass on how to make your way through the complexities of BIM standards, technology and terminology, as well as being on hand for one to one advice at the ‘BIM Genius Bar’. He said:
“This year’s Ecobuild will have a lot to offer manufacturers. As the Government’s 2016 deadline for level 2 BIM on all public sector, centrally procured projects approaches, manufacturers need to make sure they’re ready to meet the needs of specifiers. NBS will be on hand to answer all their questions – including why providing accurate BIM objects is so important to a product’s success, why standardisation is needed, and how NBS can assist them in authoring, checking and hosting BIM objects.”
Ecobuild will also be the first opportunity to hear about the exciting plans the NBS National BIM Library has for the coming year. Having just signed up its 100th manufacturer the library has ambitious plans to grow to include over 500 manufacturers by the end of 2015. This will be achieved through a pioneering new service, which will be previewed exclusively at Ecobuild.
Other highlights of the BIM programme will include an early opportunity to preview and comment on the development of the government-sponsored BIM Toolkit, the unified classification system and digital plan of work that will complete Level 2 BIM. Live demonstrations will be given, as well as seminars with David Philp Head of BIM Implementation at the Cabinet Office and Dr Stephen Hamil, Director of Design and Innovation and Head of BIM at NBS.
Other masterclasses will be led by technical experts such as Dale Sinclair, Director of Technical Practice at AECOM and Mark Bew, Chairman of HM Government’s BIM Task Group, Steve Lockley, Professor of Building Modelling at Northumbria University and Richard Waterhouse, CEO at RIBA Enterprises, will be speaking about BIM Beyond 2016, focusing on the next steps.
