Dating back to 1795, Oakley Hall Hotel is a Grade II Listed Georgian country manor with a distinguished and fascinating history.
The building recently underwent a £4 million, 18 month refurbishment programme and is now home to striking bespoke carpet from Newhey Carpets, a leading British manufacturer of contract carpets for the hotel & leisure sectors.
This beautiful Georgian country residence has preserved its stunning original features. Working from a design brief to ensure the interiors are sympathetic to the original design style but also to bring the building into the 21st century, Newhey supplied seven unique designs from their Colortec+ range to give the scheme a more modern feel.
Alexandra Ledger, Managing Director at Bright Bay Design, commented: “Newhey provided great support throughout the design phase, providing prompt colour-ups and sampling and as the project progressed they provided solutions to overcome the various technical difficulties inevitably encountered on a project of this type.”
With such a unique and precious building it was vital that the carpets were much more than just an ‘off-the shelf’ product. Colortec+ was the perfect solution as the computer yarn placement technology provided the ability to specify complex designs, using high quality 80% Wool 20% Nylon hank dyed pile yarns.
In total the 2,450 square metres of carpet includes the hotel’s bar lounge, several reception rooms, anteroom and guestrooms including standard, deluxe and executive rooms as well as the corridors and stairs. The colour combination of gold and cream in the guestrooms provides an ambience of understated elegance. Public areas utilise the unique and luxurious combination of Twist and Velvet yarns to create a sense of texture and depth, ultimately pairing tradition with a modern finish. The corridors and stairs were designed to match the interior decor of gold chairs and the pattern of the carpet coincided with the specially designed curtains.
As this project required a detailed plan with strict deadlines, dedicated project manager, Richard Barwick at Cove Construction managed the entire project. The hotel’s General Manager, Jon Huxford, said: “I am very pleased with the results and we have received lots of positive feedback from customers saying how nice the new carpets are.”
The durable Newhey carpet was measured and installed by Downs Carpets Ltd. Warren Snook who managed the installation said: “Overall the quality of the carpet was excellent and it was very easy to install due to its eco-friendly, flexible backing system. Accurate roll sizes were labelled correctly for each area, making it easier for us as we could take each individual roll into the designated room without having to check and unwrap the product. Everything went smoothly and to plan and we look forward to working with Newhey Carpets on more projects in the future.”
