The Premier Inn at Brentford is a new purpose-built 124 bed hotel arranged over basement, ground and ten upper floors.
A new insulated cladding system was specified to improve the building’s thermal performance whilst creating an attractive aesthetic befitting the £13 million development.
Designed by White Ink Architects for developer Carlton Properties, the contemporary new addition to the hotel chain has been built on a derelict Brownfield site on the Great West Road in Brentford – the historic ‘Golden Mile’ of British industry.
To meet the high specification and modern design, a premium performance insulation was required that would deliver excellent U-values whilst using a reduced thickness and amount of materials within the external wall and rainscreen cladding application.
With the insulation layer a vital element in the new aluminium cladding system, the specification of a high performance solution was a prerequisite. To meet the thermal performance requirements and installation programme, specialist contractor M Clarke & Sons Ltd applied more than 6,000m2 of Celotex RS5000.
Along with Class O fire performance, Celotex RS5000 has been successfully tested to meet the requirements of BR 135 and also achieves a BRE A+ Green Guide rating. The most recent addition to Celotex’ leading ‘5000’ series range, Celotex RS5000 features a super low lambda value of 0.021 W/mK delivering better U-values and thinner solutions.
Supplied in a thickness of 100mm to achieve the project’s target U-value of 0.15 W/m2K, two layers of the Celotex RS5000 PIR boards were installed beneath the new Vitrabond cladding system. Suitable for use in warm steel frame constructions for ventilated facade applications, Celotex RS5000 can be used in buildings above 18 metres in height – a first for PIR insulation.
With its high quality and sustainable solutions, Celotex helped the project to meet the target U-value of 0.15 W/m2K for its external walls and deliver outstanding thermal performance at the new-build hotel scheme.
“Our Vitrabond Rainscreen system required a high performance insulation to achieve the targeted U-value of 0.15 W/m2K," explained Kevin Hardy, Procurement Engineer at Clarke Facades.
"The specification of two layers of Celotex RS5000 in a thickness of 100mm enabled a smooth installation and helped to deliver the required thermal performance.”
