Space Saver has secured a unique self-storage selling point after becoming the first rental unit company in the UK to provide covered access to its customers.
The Kent-based business, founded in 1992, achieved the accolade through the installation of a custom-built 700m2 canopy.
The L-shaped structure provides year-round cover to 60 new outdoor Space Saver units, ensuring customers can unload from their vehicles at their leisure and in any weather without risk of damage to their belongings.
John Burgess, Managing Director at Space Saver, said: “The canopy has given us a unique self-storage option unlike any other in the country. I’m hoping in business terms it will take Space Saver to the next level.”
The bespoke canopy was designed, manufactured and installed by Clovis Canopies, based in East Peckham, near the Hop Farm Tourist Attraction.
The project brief required Clovis to construct a canopy that could link planned and existing storage units together, be wide enough to allow vehicles to turn and high enough to enable access for removal lorries.
With a 7m roofspan and 4.4m eaves height, the Clovis canopy comfortably met these requirements.
Douglas Cox, Contracts Manager at Clovis, said the Space Saver installation started life as a conceptual project, and it was up to his team to realise their customer’s dream.
He said: “The main challenge was to develop what the client anticipated into the finished project and create the plan before the storage units were in place. Thanks to our experience and expertise in the field of bespoke canopies, the project was a joy to be a part of, and complete.”
John Burgess added: “The canopy had to fit in with our existing buildings, which it did beautifully. I was also very taken with the simplicity of the design.
“It also helped that Clovis were able to bespoke the canopy in Space Saver livery – blue, white and yellow. It’s given us a unique self-storage option unlike any other in the country.”
Space Saver offers 1,200 rooms for business and personal storage at its Waterham Storage Park facility.
