Sprue Safety Products supports National Deaf Awareness Week

Home safety products specialist, Sprue Safety Products, is supporting National Deaf Awareness Week (May 19 – 25) and backing the advice of the country’s Fire and Rescue Services by urging people with hearing problems to ensure they have sufficient smoke alarms fitted in their homes.

Ensuring the right smoke alarm technology is fitted in your home is vital to give you precious life-saving seconds to escape.

Sprue’s latest generation of FireAngel safety products provide an enhanced level of protection against fire for those at high risk, including those with hearing loss.

This new Wi-Safe 2TM range of fire safety products work together as a single system to alert residents to the dangers of fire so they can reach safety. The wireless system includes the WST-630 smoke alarm, a combined strobe and vibrating pad and a low frequency sounder. These products communicate with each other by continuously sending and receiving wireless signals and, in the event of fire, will alarm simultaneously providing an early warning and a better chance of escape.

Research suggests that a low frequency signal is more likely to wake up high risk individuals such as children, those with mild to moderate hearing loss, older people and people under the influence of alcohol than a regular smoke alarm1.

The WST-630 smoke alarm incorporates ThermoptekTM technology which provides fast reaction to both slow smouldering and fast flaming fires in a single alarm and is featured in the smoke alarms fitted by 98% of the UK’s Fire & Rescue Services.

These alarms can be interlinked to create a network of up to 50. If smoke triggers any one, all other networked alarms and ancillary devices will activate. Each alarm in the network can be tested by pressing the test button on the strobe or on the low frequency sounder, which is ideal for people with limited physical ability.

Linked to the smoke alarm, the flashing strobe and vibrating pad will be triggered to alert someone who may not be able to hear the audible alarm. The flashing strobe provides a visual warning for waking hours, while the vibrating pad is designed to be placed under a pillow, mattress, cushion or on a chair where the occupant sits and will start to vibrate to alert them when a smoke alarm sounds.

Quick and easy to link and install, there is no need for costly and disruptive wiring and the system can be adapted to meet the individual’s changing requirements, providing home occupiers with more independence in their own home.
