Off-Site product manufacturer STORMKING has combined modern prefabrication methods with traditional Lead finishes for DANDARA JERSEY Ltd on their prestigious housing development Belvedere at St Saviour.
Looking to utilise prefabricated dormer roofs to ease construction on site the developers needed to finish them with real lead to blend in with the area’s existing housing and comply with the local planning requirements.
Design manager Paul Oldham worked alongside a local lead master craftsman to enable the finished products to be manufactured to the Lead Sheet Association Standards. The moulding of the GRP dormers needed to incorporate venting behind the lead sheeting and cast-in anchors to hold the finished panels in place and allow for thermal movement after installation.
STORMKING was selected to design and manufacture these special dormers and with a reputation to provide prefabricated products to BBA Standards and deliver on time and within budget the task has been completed to everyone’s satisfaction.
The use of prefabricated GRP components is now well accepted and acknowledged by architects, local authorities, specifies, and leading UK developers of residential buildings to provide precise finishing details at an economical price . Reduced installation time and construction costs make these types of components appealing for all types of construction, typically GRP prefabricated products such as dormer roofs only require fixing in place on site ready for the internal finishing.
Less skilled labour is required and less site waste is generated while maintaining the highest level of detail and low maintenance, all of which has contributed to the continued growth in the use of GRP products in house building throughout the country.
Using STORMKING’S Auto Desk Inventor 3-D modelling the design, structural and insulation issues were easily provided to ensure complete compliance with the NHBC and local Authorities requirements.
Established in 1985 STORMKING is the largest manufacturer of prefabricated building components in the UK and is the only one to have gained BBA Certification, ISO9001 Quality Standards and ISO14001 Environmental Standards for its products.
Sales Director Barry Whitehall commented: “We have a long established policy of investment, continuous improvement and innovation with both products and manufacturing methods to provide our customers with the best value for our ranges of quality products.”
With a workforce of over 200 STORMKING is producing over 2000 prefabricated products a week from its factories based in the heart of the country and close to all the major motorway links.
The ranges of products produced for developers includes, entrance canopies, bay roofs, dormers, chimneys, porticoes, columns, towers, domes, cornice moulding and copings, each with a selection of styles, colours and textures to enhance any building project in rural or urban areas throughout the country.
