Getting to grips with maths is no easy thing, especially if you’re up against the clock winding down towards an exam. In Dublin, Ireland they seem to have this mathematical pressure cooker well under control.
The Institute of Education in Dublin was founded in 1969 and set up initially to provide private grinds in Maths to both teachers and Leaving Certificate students. The classes were so successful that a site was hired on Leeson Street in Dublin, with the classes extended to cover a range of Leaving Certificate subjects.
Today, The Institute of Education occupies seven large Georgian buildings on its Dublin City Centre campus and is one of the largest private second level schools and ‘grind’ schools in Ireland, sending more students to third-level colleges than any other school in Ireland. With a refurbishment due, the overall level of academic excellence would spill over onto the institute’s requirements for top quality throughout the project. The flooring aspect would take the full brunt of the new requirements with international flooring and interiors specialists Gerflor rising to the top of the class to deliver the requisite quality.
The architects John Fleming Architects (JFA) in Dublin would be appointed to transform the existing building. JFA have developed a diverse body of work and in over twenty years in business they have completed over 4000 houses and apartments, 1200 beds of student accommodation, and numerous hotels, offices, schools, shopping centres, motor showrooms, fit outs and conservation projects. They would specify some 1200m2 of Gerflor’s Taralay Impression Comfort flooring, spread over three levels and colour themed in red, blue and yellow.
With ten new extra designs Taralay Impression Comfort is an acoustic multi-layered vinyl floor covering available in 2m wide sheet, with a group T wear rating.
This would be a project that would need the very best levels of installation. The demanding installation would fall to one of the largest contract flooring companies in Ireland; Dublin-based Advance Flooring Ltd. Taralay Impression Comfort comprises of a Very High Density (VHD) foam backing reinforced with glass fibre and a printed design that’s protected by a transparent wear layer (0.65 mm thick) which offers 19 dB sound insulation and an indentation resistance of 0.08 mm.
The product is protected by a UV-cured surface treatment Protecsol which is easy to maintain and permanently eliminates the need of an acrylic emulsion (metallisation). It does not contain any heavy metals or CMR 1&2 and it is 100% compliant with REACH. The product emission rate of volatile organic compounds is < 70 µg/m3 (TVOC after 28 days – ISO 16000 -6). It is also 100% recyclable.
