Reflecting the changing population, Mira Showers has developed a comprehensive range of inclusive showering and bathroom products so housebuilders and specifiers can select them in the confidence that they will meet the needs of all vulnerable users, whether elderly or an infant, a wheelchair user or non-disabled.
Every item in the collection has the trademark features that have made Mira the UK market leader – ease of installation, low maintenance, unbeatable performance, proven reliability, innovative technology and after-sales support – combined with safety and security for the user. This is reflected in the breadth and number of awards and accreditations the range has: TMV2, TMV3, BEAB Care, Waterwise and endorsement from the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB).
All the products will enable those that are less able to wash and shower independently, whether they are from the showering, bathing and hand washing ranges that can be installed in new properties to the adaptive products that can be fitted on existing shower and sanitary ware.
The Mira showering range caters for every type of UK domestic water system, whether it is low or high pressure, hot and cold water or cold water alone, with thermostatic controls ensuring the safety of electric showers and contemporary mixers featuring the latest ‘Eco’ water efficiency technology.
A leader in the development of thermostatic controls, Mira Showers manufactures a range of TMV2 and TMV3 controls that guard against scalding, which kills around 20 people and injures nearly 600 each year, and ensure compliance with Part G of the Building Regulations, which addresses the issue.
Guaranteed for five years, the Excel EV is the UK’s best-selling thermostatic mixer and provides enjoyable, high flow performance at any pressure but with the security of safer showering because it is supplied with thermostatic temperature control, a maximum temperature stop, and a manual override button. Easy-to-use, with one simple lever to control flow, the shower shuts down automatically if the water supply fails.
One of the few electric showers to have been awarded the BEAB CARE mark for safety, the Advance ATL Flex is the market’s preferred care product and delivers safe, precise, thermostatically controlled showering for total peace of mind. Its inclusive design makes it easy for anyone to use and, if the temperature ever rises above a pre-set level, the shower turns off automatically.
Endorsed by the RNIB thanks to its user friendly features designed specifically for blind and visually impaired users., it also has specialist fittings adapted to suit the needs of the less able, such as long lever taps, non-touch digital showers and infra-red operated non-touch taps.
Showing the same commitment to quality and being fit for purpose, the Mira range of trays, enclosures and wall panels are uniquely suited to multi-generational housing with a number of features to improve use and safety. Mira Flight trays and wall panels are not simply easy to install but are made from strong acrylic-capped resin stone that incorporates BioCote to reduce bacteria and mould growth by up to 99.9%. Already specified in the healthcare sector, the panels are up to 75% faster to install than conventional tiles. Similarly, Mira Elevate Enclosures are tough and easy to install but feature doors that are reversible and frameless, for that premium feel.
This combination of safety and style is exemplified by the Flight Safe range of anti-slip shower trays that exceeds the most stringent anti-slip test available – Class C DIN 51097 – a barefoot ramp test. In independent testing the tray is fixed to the ramp, made wet and soapy and then inclined until the test subject slips. To gain the highest certification, Class C, the subject has to be able to remain standing when the tray is at an angle of 24o yet, with Flight Safe, this was possible at 30o. This third party certification can head off any potential lawsuits as it demonstrates just how safe and fit-for-purpose the shower tray is.
All these products are complemented by a comprehensive range of accessories that fulfil the needs of the young, the elderly and the less able, including showerheads to limit water usage and lime scale, corner-mounted slide bars that save space and shower seats. All these products are detailed in the Mira publication Inclusive Showering & Bathroom Products for Housing Communities and Adaptations.
