Aperio for Liverpool university hospital

A Liverpool-based university hospital has been supplied with innovative Aperio wireless locking technology from ASSA ABLOY Access Control, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions.

Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides general acute health care to 330,000 residents in North Merseyside and surrounding areas. The hospital is currently undergoing a £35 million refurbishment of its A&E department and other urgent care facilities.

The facility required high performance security and access control, to help improve day-to-day operations and expand public access to the building while maintaining appropriate restrictions to sensitive areas with confidential patient documents.

Following a tender process, Grantfen were selected to provide a Inner Range unified platform, which is integrated with ASSA ABLOY, Access Control’s innovative Aperio escutcheons.

Sue McIntyre, General Manager at Grantfen, said: “Aintree Hospital has around 700 inpatient beds and 4,600 staff, as well as almost 154,000 accident and emergency cases and visitors each year. This large footfall required an effective access control system to make the building more secure and ensure that all expensive medical equipment, medication and confidential documentation is protected, while allowing visitors to navigate around the hospital with ease.

“ASSA ABLOY, Access Control’s Aperio escutcheons proved to be the most cost effective and easy to install security solution for the hospital, offering a straightforward alternative to a wired complicated solution, without any need to modify the doors; a particularly useful feature for installing the system quickly and efficiently, without disrupting the operations within the live building.”

Gareth Ellams, Managing Director at ASSA ABLOY Access Control, concluded: “We have extensive experience for supplying security systems within the healthcare sector. Through working closely with our trusted partners Grantfen and Inner Range we succeeded in installing our Aperio escutcheons to instantly upgrade Aintree Hospital’s access control system. The installation costs were minimal - crucial for a public sector funded project where budgets are tight.”
