The construction of a new waste recovery park in Milton Keynes has been completed with the use of Hollowcore floor units provided by Bison Manufacturing, the UK’s leading precast concrete manufacturer.
The facility uses mechanical treatments and heat energy recovery systems to process black sack waste to generate enough energy to power 11,000 homes in the area.
Having been appointed by engineering and construction company VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd, Bison delivered 167m² of its market leading 150mm Hollowcore floor units, complete with cast-in lifting hooks, across two separate buildings in the project.
Although original plans called for the use of wet concrete poured onsite, VolkerFitzpatrick opted to use Bison’s precast units as they create a safe, immediate working platform on site, allowing work to continue without interruption.
Speaking on the project, Bison’s Sales and Commercial manager, Mike Nelson, said: “VolkerFitzpatrick has been a customer of ours for many years; therefore they’re aware of the many benefits of using our precast Hollowcore units.
“Bison’s ability to mechanically insert cast-in lifting hooks means our units can be installed more quickly, safely and accurately. This also reduces the risk of damaging the soffits and bearings during installation, ensuring that quality is not compromised.”
Anthony Clarke, project manager at VolkerFitzpatrick, said: “We initially placed an order with Bison for one of the buildings in this facility, however having worked with their expert team who assisted us with our product selection, we were happy to place a second order for the project.”
The new waste recovery park was completed in January 2016 and was fully operational in September 2016.
