EGGER UK’s new OSB HDX 30mm load-bearing panels have been used by Woodfield Squash and Leisure Club in Doncaster as part of a £500k expansion and renovation.
The purpose-built club located in Woodfield Park is independently owned by local businessmen Matt Hudson and Rob Waller.
The new investment has created four glass-back squash courts with underfloor heating, an open plan gym with top-of-the-range weight machines and cardiovascular equipment, a large fitness studio and new members’ bar overlooking the squash courts.
Approximately 400m2 of EGGER OSB HDX boards were installed to create the floor in the gym and fitness studio on the first floor.
Club owner Matt Hudson explains: “We’ve made a significant investment in the building to expand and refurb the interior to create a modern and spacious venue where our customers can keep fit and socialise.
“We specified EGGER OSB HDX panels for the substrate floors in the new gym and fitness studio because of their strength and superior insulation properties. It was essential to have strong load bearing panels because of the weight of the gym equipment and sound proofing for the fitness studio.
“The EGGER panels are denser and stronger than other boards on the market, providing extra strength, insulation and sound reduction. Although the sheet sizes are larger, the EGGER boards are actually lighter and easier to handle than traditional 38mm chipboard panels.”
EGGER UK specialises in the design and manufacture of structural flooring boards for use in both residential and commercial build projects throughout the UK and Ireland.
Produced using a special formula, EGGER OSB HDX is a game changer in the structural flooring market. The new 30mm boards are ideal for use in industrial, commercial, warehouse and mezzanine flooring applications. They’re wider, lighter and stronger than conventional 38mm boards, as well as having higher load points and UDLs.
Dan Soulsby, EGGER UK's Category Manager for Building Products, explains: “EGGER OSB HDX is ideal for this type of application as it provides the strength, insulation and stiffness required for an extreme load bearing floor, plus a whole host of additional benefits to the installer. We’re always pushing the boundaries with our products to offer customers innovation and excellent quality solutions for their projects.”
EGGER OSB HDX is a 2400mm x 675mm board with a tongue and groove on the two long edges. Against a typical 38mm chipboard equivalent with a 600mm width, the user gets just over 11% more coverage per panel. Added benefits for installers include the low swelling properties of OSB HDX which ensure it’s less likely to pick up moisture that can lead to uneven floors, it’s also easy to manoeuvre and quicker to fit.
