Black Millwork launches a new range of bi-fold doors

Black Millwork has once again reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering its expansive range of window and door products by adding a new collection of bi-fold doors to its product catalogue.

Black Millwork’s new bi-fold doors can be supplied in sets or designed to bespoke requirements to fit a particular design goal.

The products are crafted from a range of materials including aluminium, aluminium clad and oak.

The doors open in a concertina style meaning they fold nearly flat when open. The bi-fold doors open expansively to help create a seamless connection between a property’s indoor and outdoor environment. In response to growing customer demand the doors can be fully integrated into a smart home system and configured for operation via a mobile phone.

The new Black Millwork doors can be manufactured for the first time from aluminium, an increasingly popular material choice for developers and self-builders. Comparatively lighter than other metals such as steel, aluminium is easier to install and safer to use on site. This helps to reduce installation time and cost on a project, meaning homeowners can move into properties faster. What’s more, modern aluminium is incredibly durable, making it very long lasting.

Another consideration when assessing aluminium as a building material is its sustainability. In an increasingly environmentally conscious world a product’s carbon footprint is an important detail. Aluminium is the most commonly occurring metal in the Earth’s crust. The material is also infinitely recyclable, requiring 95% less energy to recycle than to produce primary metals and therefore avoiding emissions including greenhouse gases.

Speaking on the product’s release, Gary Hutton, General Manager at Black Millwork commented: “We’re delighted to announce the release of these products to our portfolio. We’re happy to be able to offer such a wide range of bi-folding doors, which will suit any property. Additionally, now that we can offer aluminium it helps us expand our product offering and work on projects we were previously unable to. In looking to respond to consumer demand we’ve ensured that all these products can be integrated into smart home systems. The new collection can be controlled either manually or electrically and can be configured to be operated with a mobile phone with a custom made application available for download.”

Prior to launching in the market, the bi-fold doors have been extensively test marketed allowing Black Millwork to rectify any unforeseen issues that users may experience. Since then, the product has already been specified across a range of commercial projects and is proving a popular choice for developers. The product has a range of benefits for self-builders and a similar level of uptake is expected within this sector.

One of the reasons the bi-fold doors are so well suited to application across different projects is Black Millwork’s ability to manufacture to bespoke requirements. Similar to the rest of its product offering Black Millwork owns full design rights for the bi-fold doors, including drawing and tooling. This enables them to supply relatively small sizes at extremely competitive prices and they can also cater to bigger scale requirements with the ability to manufacturer up to three metres.

In its largest incarnation the glass in the door can weigh up to three tonnes, however it can still be operated with the touch of a finger due to the sophisticated nature of the internal mechanism. Furthermore, the doors can also be reinforced with carbon fibre to ensure they remain structurally sound regardless of size.

Black Millwork is also pleased to announce the new range of bi-fold doors are available to view in the National Self Build and Renovation Centre in Swindon. The centre is the UK’s only permanent venue designed specifically to meet the needs of anyone looking to undertake a self-build, renovation or home improvement project. Visitors can examine products across three full size exhibition houses, as well as more than 240 stands displaying the latest products and services.
