Kenko, is the latest flooring collection from Granorte, combining the natural properties of cork with the latest Japanese innovation for a floor that’s completely free of PVC.
With the look of the very best luxury vinyl floors, Kenko fuses the environmental, acoustic, thermal and comfort advantages of cork with the latest in wear layer technology to provide a PVC- and plasticiser-free alternative to LVT without performance trade-off.
Developed in Japan, the 0.25mm thick polymer wear-layer relies on electron beam hardening to provide a stain-resistant, abrasion-resistant and easy to maintain surface free of PVC or plasticisers. Beneath lies a high-definition décor layer, 1.75mm thick agglomerated cork cushion layer, Uniclic enabled HDF core and 1mm backing layer, again of agglomerated cork.
In composition, these layers combine to make Kenko a floor that’s easy to install, comfortable, warm, quiet, durable and easy to look after. It’s also resistant to impact and fading, inhibits bacteria growth and offers excellent chemical resistance.
“It is our belief that Kenko is a major step-forward in flooring technology,” says Paulo Rocha, product and R&D manager, Granorte. “At every stage we are looking to reduce the impact of the materials we use alongside cork, already a highly-sustainable, low-impact material. In this new polymer wear-layer, we’ve been able to eliminate all PVC, plasticisers, phthalates, halogens, chlorines and heavy metals from the floor, making it better for the environment and a healthier choice for homes and businesses alike.
“Kenko is a serious alternative to luxury vinyl products in terms of performance and maintenance, with none of the trade-off in environmental impact. In fact, with bridging thanks to a rigid HDF core and cork backing layer, we believe it is a more environmentally-conscious alternative to the latest rigid core vinyl products.”
First available in six authentic wood looks, Kenko is suitable for use in busy areas of family homes such as kitchens, hallways and open-plan living areas. With extremely low VOC emissions, Microban antibacterial treatment and Greenguard certified; it is a great choice when hygiene and indoor air quality are in focus. The floor is rated Class 34 and so can be used in the most demanding commercial environments, where less toxic gases under combustion - compared to rubber and vinyl - make it a safer choice in public spaces.
This revolutionary new flooring category is now available from Granorte, as part of its special-order programme.
