Specification, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening
solutions, has delivered a RIBA-accredited seminar on the realities of working
in a BIM environment.
Hosted at the Royal
Institute of British Architects, the seminar was well-received by over 100
architects, contractors and project managers who attended from across the
country.
Over the course of
the morning the seminar covered a number of topics including the practicalities
of BIM specification, the impact in terms of time and cost on the specification
process, and the effective approaches to a greater and more value rich BIM experience.
Panellists included
a number of key architects and senior project managers in the industry, who
discussed their experiences with BIM modelling and took questions from the
floor.
Eric Spooner, ASSA
ABLOY BIM Manager also spoke at the event, explaining how BIM worked to
streamline a large construction project. He says: “Banner University Medical
Centre is the ideal case study for showcasing the ease of information sharing
via Openings Studio. It enabled the design team to update 1,600 door objects in
the Revit model and door schedule within just 10 minutes – saving significant
time and costs.”
Feedback from the
delegates was also positive, with Nigel Wright, Director of WRIGHT-CLASS
Solutions Ltd saying: “The event was a good balance of discussion and case
study examples pertinent to the fast-moving BIM and big data environment. The
challenges of compliance, BIM level 2 standards and future development was
particularly of interest.”
