HOWARTH TIMBER SET TO TACKLE TWENTY MILE COASTAL WALK FOR CANCER RESEARCH

Howarth Timber & Building Supplies is hoping to raise £10,000 for Cancer Research UK through its upcoming fundraising walk from Scarborough Castle to Whitby Abbey, which is set to take place between Friday 21st September and Sunday 23rdSeptember.

The company has asked employees to choose an official charity for around a decade, and this year the most popular choice was Cancer Research UK, who will be the recipient of any fundraising activities carried out by Howarth Timber throughout the year. This year’s walk will be the main group-wide fundraising event, with both staff and customers encouraged to take part.

Having previously organised annual fundraising events for the chosen charity including mountainous walks to the likes of Ben Nevis and Snowdon, it was decided that it was time to try something a little different: a walk from Scarborough Castle to Whitby Abbey.

While this walk will be less daunting for some of the participants than previous events, they will be covering an approximately 20 mile coastal stretch – meaning it will still be a challenge worthy of sponsorship! The coastal walk will see participants taking in historical sights and, providing the weather is clear, the epic scenery along Cleveland Way.

Event organisers from Howarth Timber were keen to continue this fundraising activity again this year, as not only will it benefit Cancer Research UK, but it has also proved enormously popular with staff over the years. For this year’s walk, 38 people have signed up for the full weekend, leaving just two spaces available. There is no deadline to sign up to taking part in the event: all that is required is the commitment to achieving a fundraising target of £250. Alternatively, anyone can turn up on the day providing they pay a small fee to cover the bus back again.

Gavin Knowles, marketing manager for Howarth Timber, said: “We’re proud to have been able to run another fundraising event for Howarth’s current chosen charity, Cancer Research UK.

“These annual walking events have become the highlight of Howarth’s fundraising calendar, and they have previously been very successful. We’re hoping that this year will be no different, and our aim is to hit our overall target of £10,000 again.

“The costs of the event are shared between the participants and the company, so every penny donated will go towards finding a cure for cancer sooner.”
