A longstanding commitment to ethical and responsible manufacturing has enabled Wienerberger to achieve an “Excellent” rated BES 6001 certificate for its UK manufactured bricks, roof tiles and pavers.
BES 6001 (The BRE Global Environmental and Sustainability Standard) provides a framework for the responsible sourcing of construction products. This third party assessment takes into account specific environmental, economic and social impacts to provide recognition for suppliers embracing genuine sustainability.
Over the past two years Wienerberger has encouraged its key raw material suppliers to follow best practice and obtain ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certifications for environmental and quality management.
Wienerberger also demonstrated leadership in resource management and stakeholder engagement, enabling the company to score highly in the assessment and take the rating for its brick, roof tile and paver products from “Good” to “Excellent”.
The BES 6001 certification allows customers to make better informed decisions about selecting sustainable construction materials as organisations must satisfy a number of requirements relating to supply chain management, energy use, waste management, employment, modern slavery and corporate social responsibility.
BES 6001 certificates can also help maximise points for architects and specifiers looking to achieve high BREEAM scores for their building projects.
