Operable walls assist vital service at Montague Hall

Folding partition specialist Building Additions has helped to transform the inside of Addiction Recovery Community (ARC) at Montague Hall, Hounslow, with the installation of six of its operable walls.

Hounslow Council wanted to install operable walls in order to make the best use of the space available. The partitions were fitted to create individual meeting rooms to provide privacy and security to those visiting the facility.

ARC Hounslow is a service that helps people break a cycle of addiction to substances such as heroin, cocaine, and new psychoactive substance as well as long term alcohol addiction.

Derek Anderson, Project Manager at Hounslow Council commented, “We originally found Building Additions via an internet search and having used them before decided to contact them again for the Montague Hall project. Having operable walls installed at the hall is very beneficial as it allows users to divide up the space when required whilst still allowing the area to be used as a public hall. I am very pleased with the results and would happily recommend Building Additions to others.”

Operable folding walls and folding partitions offer a bespoke solution for organisations looking for a flexible approach to managing their available space. Building Additions designed and installed a tailor made solution for Montague Hall, enabling them to create space for individual meetings more easily.

Whilst widely used within hotel banqueting suites and conference centres with large multi-functional spaces, operable walls are also ideally suited for use within offices to give added flexibility to meeting, training and conference rooms and are the perfect solution when high acoustic performance and a feeling of quality are the main priorities.

Operable walls are often known as acoustic walls because they offer the highest level of sound proofing available from a semi-permanent partition. The individual partition panels are built using an isolated steel frame and a multiple material infill which combined give an enhanced acoustic performance of Rw 59dB.

The individual panels can be easily operated by handle or a semi-automatic electric system and because they are ceiling hung there is no potential obstruction from a floor track, giving maximum flexibility on how the space is used.

Building Additions’ operable walls are constructed with a solid particle board on a welded steel frame. Panels are filled with mineral wool and other sound obstructing sheets giving a high acoustic performance as standard whilst maintaining a panel thickness of 100mm. The standard minimum panel width is 650mm and the maximum is 1250mm, but non-standard sizes can also be created, such as pass doors or glazing for greater flexibility.

There is no floor track with movable wall systems and the high pressure (2Kn) operable seals top and bottom give a 25mm clearance of both floor and head track when fully retracted. The special track and carrier system uses heavy duty tracks and rollers for added durability whilst also ensuring quiet and easy operation. Systems can be fire and smoke certificated for additional protection.

Building Additions movable wall systems are available in an extensive range of surface finishes to match any existing design and colour scheme. The operable walls, which consist of solid individual wall panels that interlock into place when pulled across, are also perfect for schools and colleges particularly for areas where sound insulation is required.

Building Additions is an established folding partition manufacturer based in Frome, Somerset with a reputation for manufacturing, supplying and installing quality room partitions and movable walls to businesses, educational organisations and homes across the UK.
