Johnstone’s Trade introduces new Air Pure – an innovative bio-based wall and ceiling paint that actually purifies indoor air, helping architects and designers respond to increasing calls for improved air quality in buildings.
On average, we spend 90 per cent of our time indoors, and indoor air can be up to 10 times more polluted than outdoor air, containing a number of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This includes formaldehyde, which is present in all houses and public spaces at varying concentrations, but can be harmful when raised.
Molecules are emitted from a range of common indoor materials such as chipboards, fibreboards, furniture, carpet, glue and interior fabrics.
Once applied, Johnstone’s Air Pure removes up to 70 per cent of formaldehyde from the air, helping to neutralise the indoor environment over a number of years.
Johnstone’s Trade has developed its revolutionary Air Purifying Technology to help architects and designers to improve indoor air quality post-construction – a key criterion for bodies such as BREEAM, LEED and the International WELL Building Institute, which promote health and wellbeing in the built environment.
Thanks to the use of renewable raw materials, Johnstone’s Air Pure is 45 per cent bio-based and the packaging is made from 100 per cent recycled materials, contributing to a more sustainable world.
Tony Walker, technical specification controller at Johnstone’s Trade, said: “Modern lifestyles have led to an increase in the time people spend indoors, where levels of formaldehyde in the air have the potential to become harmful during the lifecycle of a building. With this in mind, we have created a solution that not only extracts formaldehyde from the air, but that has bio-based products in its formula, which is becoming more important in our industry.
“From day one, Air Pure starts to purify the indoor air and continues to remove up to 70 per cent of the formaldehyde over a number of years. We’re very proud to have developed such a ground-breaking product and are confident that it will help architects and designers improve the performance of their projects in light of environmental best practice, while creating better indoor environments for years to come.”
Johnstone’s Air Pure is available in a variety of colours, including the new Voice of Colour colour palette, and dries to a desirable matt finish.
