LONDON, UK, (August 3, 2020) --INVISTA, makers of Antron® nylon 6,6 commercial carpet fibre, released today its sustainability and wellbeing report, “The Antron® Brand on Sustainability”. The report, available in digital and video format, reinforces the brand’s sustainability vision and includes testimonials from interior designers, flooring professionals and end users detailing their experience with the Antron® brand and sustainability. The premise for this vison is carpet that lasts longer can drive meaningful sustainability, enhance human wellbeing and support long-term value.
Long-Run Sustainability
Antron® fibres offer permanent built-in performance so carpets can work harder, clean up beautifully, and resist crushing, matting, staining and soil. This longevity drives real sustainability and supports long-term value. The total cost of ownership of carpets made with Antron can be 250% less over the life of the carpet. Carpets made with Antron® nylon can last up to 75% longer than a majority of competitive carpets*. This product longevity supports long-term value and cost savings captured from not having to replace carpet prematurely.
“Over the years, most of us have experienced the trend toward short-lived disposable products, and this trend is counter to real sustainability,” said Anthony Green, Vice President of Global Commercial Solutions for INVISTA.“We believe carpets should be durable, not disposable.Antron® fibres are designed consistent with the belief that the longer our product lasts, the more sustainable it is.”
Sustainability Supports Wellbeing
The brand’s approach to sustainability and innovation is centred on supporting human wellbeing.“We seek to enhance human wellbeing and reduce environmental impact through unbeatable product performance including cleanability, durability and longevity that far surpass competitive fibres,” said Green.“That’s sustainability for the long run, and we’re focused on putting people first with products that last.”
Antron® solution-dyed fibre has built-in industry-leading stain and soil resistance that reduces the need for harsh cleaning chemicals in commercial environments.Carpet also provides acoustic benefits that can contribute to worker productivity and a surface that can reduce fatigue and slip/fall hazards.Carpet’s natural ability to capture airborne particles, combined with the cleanability of Antron® fibre, supports human wellbeing by contributing to a cleaner indoor space.
A Bigger-Picture Focus
“We all need a reality check. It’s greener to install carpet made with virgin material that lasts up to 20 years than it is to buy carpet made with high recycled content that only lasts 5 years,” said Cary Woodfield, Owner, The Carpet Consultants.
Sustainability should not be confused with recycled content. Antron® sets the industry standard for useful life which delivers more meaningful environmental benefits than adding recycled content alone.Where recycling is available, Antron® fibres are 100 percent recyclable and can be upcycled back into other products. Current competitive product testing shows that fibre technology containing post-consumer recycled content shows soil and wear faster than Antron® fibres in high-traffic areas.
“In a marketplace where a narrow view of sustainability has centred on recycled content, we believe the Antron® brand has taken a better path, building products that last longer,” said Green.
Responsible Manufacturing
INVISTA strives to operate manufacturing facilities by keeping the best interest of the people and communities in which they live and work in mind.Strategies have been implemented over the years to help maximize energy efficiency while reducing emissions, solid waste, and air and water pollutants. Additionally, INVISTA develops long-lasting materials that minimize the eco-footprint while enhancing performance of Antron® fibre, benefiting customers and the environment.
Between 2008 and 2022, INVISTA will invest more than two billion dollars in its adiponitrile (ADN) technology.INVISTA’s most-advanced ADN technology brings improved product yields, reduced energy consumption, lower greenhouse gas emissions, enhanced process stability and reduced capital intensity, compared to existing technologies.
