The Lanxess headquarters, situated at the Chemelot Campus in Geleen (Netherlands), was developed by architects Broekbakema. The spiral flow shape of the building forms the different floors surrounding a central atrium. The design optimizes visual contact through the whole building. The most common functions like conference rooms, library and flexible workplaces are located on the spit-level floors in the atrium.
Boasting an almost entirely glazed façade the building design required an intelligent shading solution. The external façade benefits from a Guthrie Douglas TESSTM140 external blind system. Slim wire guides and flexible brackets mean the design fits into the glazing surround resulting in near invisibility when retracted. Considerations for wind resistance were made to ensure that the system would be able to tolerate any strong winds.
In total 50 TESSTM140 systems are integrated into the façade of the building. These systems provide both solar control and making the interior a comfortable working environment. This is essential for many of the areas in the building such as the conference rooms, library and flexible workplaces.
