CIBSE launches 2022 awards with reinvigorated entry process

The CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2022 have launched with a difference.

A new standardised data entry format for the project categories will allow data from buildings entered to be included in the CIBSE Energy Benchmarks.

Hywel Davies, Technical Director of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, commented on the change: “A lot of effort goes into entering these awards and we want to see measured data for the entries. The new forms make clear what we are asking for and make it easier to provide. Sharing the data is optional but those who are willing to share ensures that the accumulated understanding around each building adds to industry knowledge.”

The Building Performance Awards led the way in recognising and rewarding the proven performance of buildings in use rather than their design intent. Entries can be submitted from 9 June with the closing deadline 1 September. The awards evening will be held on Thursday 24 February 2022.

As ever, the awards programme includes categories to recognise the best consultancies, individuals and teams but the highlight of the event is always the exemplar buildings entered into the project categories.

In another change, this year the awards do not separate building types. Instead, entries are encouraged for all projects. The judges will select the best overall entries using the newly standardised entry data to make fair comparisons between buildings with very different purpose and function.

The full range of categories for the Building Performance Awards 2022 are:
