ExploreStation - shaping Britain’s future local railway stations

Latest News Thu, Dec 23, 2021 10:37 AM

Britain’s small and medium stations are getting a rethink – and The Design Council want to hear views on the emerging design.

ExploreStation is an opportunity to shape the ‘kit of parts’ design being developed by 7N Architects, winners of a 2020 international design competition run by Network Rail and the RIBA.

The ground-breaking programme offers diverse ways of getting involved – from pop-up immersive experiences featuring VR to online feedback and hands-on design workshops to attend in-person or join digitally.

The engagement will run from the beginning of February 2022 until mid-March. Throughout this period, anyone with an internet connection can view the updated proposals and respond via this online platform. The Design Council is holding a series of pop-up immersive experiences and workshops across Britain.

Pop-up immersive experiences:

  • York 2 and 3 February at the National Railway Museum – 10:00-17:00
  • Shildon 5 and 6 February at the Locomotion Museum – 10:00-17:00
  • Manchester 9, 10 and 11 February at the Museum of Science and Industry – 10:00-17:00
  • Hereford 15, 16 and 17 February at the Shell Store – 10:00-18:00
  • Paisley 22 and 23 February at Telfords – 10:00-18:00
  • Design workshops
  • Brighton 8 February – 18:00-20:30
  • Liverpool 10 February – 18:00-20:30

Online workshop 1 March – 18:00-20:30 (Please note that while everyone is welcome to attend, this online event will focus on the experiences of people with specific needs, including those who identify as being neurodiverse, physically and/ or mentally disabled)
