The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and ITN Productions Industry News are co-producing Reinventing Homes, a news-style programme looking at the impact that COVID-19 and the climate emergency have had on the housing industry and the homes we live in.
Lockdowns and numerous restrictions have resulted in the number of net new homes built falling to a five-year low - a sharp contrast to 2019-20, when the number hit the highest point since records began in the 1990s.
The reality of high housing costs, poor standards and overcrowding was felt by many when homes became classrooms and offices. Against this backdrop we have seen an increased focus on the climate emergency and what it means for the way we live and build.
Reinventing Homes will look at how the challenges of COVID-19 and the climate crisis are affecting the housing sector and share some of the incredible work that housing associations, local authorities and others have pioneered in response.
Launching on 28-30 June at the Housing 2022 event in Manchester, Reinventing Homes will combine key sector interviews, informative news items and sponsored editorials from leading organisations.
Gavin Smart, chief executive of CIH said: “For yet another year, the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to present some of the biggest challenges for our communities, and our sector, in a generation. Reinventing Homes builds on the success of our previous collaborations with ITN Productions and will explore and celebrate the amazing resilience and innovation of the housing industry. Together, we’ll discover how organisations have risen to make positive change and embrace the opportunities they have created.”
Nina Harrison-Bell, head of ITN Productions Industry News said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the Chartered Institute of Housing to make a programme which will raise awareness of the challenges facing the housing sector, reveal any recent and future changes, and educate people on the effects of Brexit, COVID and the climate emergency.
