The CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building) has announced the date for their next conservation conference, which will once again be a face-to face event – “Our Built Heritage: Lessons for resilience” will take place 26 April at Church House in London.
It will feature an impressive line-up of speakers and will be delivered in partnership with English Heritage.

Speakers include many high-profile figures from the heritage and built environment sectors. Among those already confirmed for the day are:
Chair for the morning session will be the CIOB’s Chief Executive, Caroline Gumble, with Mike Foy OBE FCIOB, CIOB’s President, chairing the afternoon, then handing to Kate Mavor CBE, English Heritage’s CEO to oversee the closing panel discussion and Q and A.
The event will also feature case studies from Sir Robert McAlpine Special Projects, English Heritage, looking at Hurst Castle in Hampshire, and the built heritage conservation of the Portuguese presidential palaces.
This is the fifteenth time the CIOB has run this event, which recognises the importance of historic buildings and conservation work in the construction industry. The CIOB believes that most construction professionals will work on historic buildings at some point in their career - in the UK alone, 50% of all construction works are on traditional buildings. The theme for this year’s event is particularly relevant as it focusses on resilience in creating and maintaining our built heritage. Participants will learn how key organisations within the UK and Europe have responded to recent events, including the impacts of COVID-19 and climate change.
A full list of speakers is available online – go to ciob.me/conservation for all the price options, the timetable for the day or to book a place. The conference will also be recorded and made available to delegates via the CIOB Academy.
